The most common criticisms

Reading the reviews, two specific complaints come up that are worth knowing before booking. The first is rest: several guests from different buildings (Mare Nostrum, Nova Romana) mention uncomfortable mattresses and sofa beds ("the mattresses, hard, hard, hard"), an aspect that could be improved in some privately managed apartments. The second is climate control: not all apartments have air conditioning, and in the height of summer the ceiling fans can be insufficient; if you travel in July or August, it is worth confirming that the apartment has A/C (some do, such as several in the Las Arenas range). Here you will find buildings such as Fontana Real (seafront), Arcos I and II, Madeira and the unique Poblado Marinero, practically over the water of the marina. It is an area somewhat separated from the old town (around 1 km), highly recommended for those who prioritise the beach and the views.

Playa Romana (north)

North of the town centre, Playa Romana is a wide sandy beach with a residential, quiet atmosphere, perfect for families with young children. The complexes in this area —Casa Blanca (seafront), Nova Romana and Peñagolosa— usually have large gardens, swimming pools and a relaxed atmosphere. They are about 800 m - 1 km from the centre, so here the priority is calm and space over having everything on foot.

Centre and El Cargador beach

If you want to have everything within walking distance —beach, supermarkets, pharmacies, bars, restaurants and the market— your area is the centre, next to El Cargador beach. Buildings such as Mare Nostrum, Parque Azahar, Al-Andalus or Bovalar offer that urban convenience a few metres from the sand. It is the best option if you travel without a car or if you value village life and the proximity of all services.
