Practical services in Alcossebre: pharmacies, doctors and more

The municipality has four pharmacies: two in Alcossebre and two in Alcalà de Xivert, some 8 km inland. Two have changed owner in recent years, though they remain in the same premises.

The duty pharmacy rotates: it is posted on each pharmacy’s door and the local police know it (964 410 000). All emergency numbers are in the useful numbers guide.

For anything that is not an emergency there are private practices in Alcossebre — general medicine, dentists and a vet — plus more dentists in Alcalà. For an emergency the number is 112; public healthcare is at the municipality’s two health centres.

It is worth calling ahead to confirm opening hours, especially out of season. The vet’s Carrer Rench is the former Calle San José.

The N-340 one is the one you catch coming in or out on the trunk road; the Alcossebre road one is on the way to the beach. How to reach the town is in the getting here guide.

Alcalà de Xivert: Fridays, 9:00 to 13:00. The traditional market, up in the village.

Alcossebre: Tuesdays, 16:00 to 22:00, June to September. It is an afternoon market and only in season — something that catches out spring visitors.

There is also the Market Marina Las Fuentes, on summer Thursdays from 18:00 to 00:00 at the marina: crafts and atmosphere rather than daily shopping. It is in the events calendar.

The marina answers on 964 41 20 84 and 964 41 46 57. For diving, the waters of the Serra d’Irta Natural Park are among the best around, with 15-20 m visibility in good conditions.

Alcossebre municipal offices: C/ San José, 48 — phone 964 15 73 76. They opened in 2013 so that coastal residents would not have to drive up to Alcalà for every errand; the town hall itself is in Alcalà de Xivert (964 41 03 01).

Beyond the above, the municipality has hardware and building supplies, wood and aluminium joiners, a locksmith, electricians and plumbers, building and renovation firms, garages and body shops (with Citroën, Renault and Seat dealers on the N-340), hairdressers, clothes shops, florists and garden centres, accountants and a driving school. Most trades are in Alcalà de Xivert; the seasonal retail is in Alcossebre.
