Parks and playgrounds in Alcossebre and Alcalà de Xivert

It sits on the Camí de Ribamar, in the Cala Blanca area, right at the entrance to the Serra d’Irta Natural Park. It opened in 2024, covers 7,000 m² and is designed for all ages, with separate zones and CCTV.

What’s there: an information point, picnic areas, the El Dragón adventure playground, a bicycle circuit, an inclusive and psychomotor playground, an outdoor fitness set, the El Barco play castle and a climbing area. It has public toilets and bike racks.

Opening times: 9:00–19:00 in winter and 9:00–22:00 in summer.

Play equipment, bins, benches and railings are all natural wood, and the planting is native and Mediterranean so the whole thing blends into its surroundings. The project was part of the town’s Tourism Sustainability Plan, funded by the EU’s Next Generation funds.

Because it is at the gateway to the natural park, it pairs perfectly with a short walk: they are all in the Serra d’Irta trails guide.

It is at Camí Ferrocarril, 18, and it is the largest green space in the town centre of Alcalà. Built in two phases (2021 and 2022), it covers 8,000 m² and has an adjoining car park and CCTV.

What’s there: outdoor fitness equipment designed with older users in mind, pétanque, a play castle, inclusive swings and wooden swings, chalkboards and a balance circuit, a zip line, a calisthenics work-out set (horizontal and vertical ladders, parallel bars and a sit-up bench), a children’s skatepark, a fenced dog area and picnic tables.

Opening times: the park is open 24 hours; the public toilets, 9:00–20:00.

The idea is intergenerational: children’s play next to resting areas and exercise trails, with a concrete path crossing the park, gravel and grass zones and native species chosen for the shade they give.

• El Calvario (Alcalà de Xivert), reached from the N-340: the village’s classic picnic spot, beside the Calvari hermitage with its 32 cypresses and the olive tree transplanted when the barbecue area was built.
• Calle Levante recreation area (Alcossebre), in the town centre.

And down by the sea there are two classics that work just as well with children: the seafront promenade and the pine grove of Plaça Vista Alegre, with its crooked-trunk pines right on the front.

If the plan is the beach, the three easiest with kids are Cargador — the broadest, 700 × 70 m, with full services and accessibility — Las Fuentes (400 × 40 m, calm water and freshwater springs rising through the sand itself) and Playa Romana (500 × 50 m), reached by the wooden walkway that starts at Cargador and fitted with an accessible wooden platform.
