The six, and where each one is
The Accommodation Guide of the Alcalà de Xivert-Alcossebre town hall lists, besides the hotels, campsites and apartment agencies, six small establishments: one rural hotel, two hostales, two guest houses and one casa rural. They are the cheapest and least visible part of what the municipality offers, and the part the big booking sites do not show.
First things first, because it changes the whole trip: the municipality is two towns. Alcossebre is the coast; Alcalà de Xivert is the inland town, about ten minutes away by car. And of these six:
- In Alcossebre, by the sea — Hotel Rural Serra d’Irta and Pensión Rench. Two.
- In Alcalà de Xivert, inland — Hostal Neus, Hostal Rosaleda, Olimpic and Masía Sierra Irta. Four.
If you want to step out of your room and be on the beach, your list is two. If you do not mind the car and you are after price, quiet, or Xivert castle next door, it opens up to six.
One by one
Hotel Rural Serra d’Irta (1★)
The only rural hotel in the municipality, and one of the two places on this list that are in Alcossebre itself, on the Las Fuentes hill. It publishes no website: the municipal guide gives only a phone number and an email, so availability and terms have to be asked directly.

Pensión Rench (Pensión)
The other place that is in Alcossebre, on Calle Rench, inside the village. It is run by Inalko, the holiday-rental agency at Calle Rench 50: the phone and email in the municipal guide are theirs. Their website is the agency’s and has no page for the guest house, so here too you have to ask.

Hostal Neus (1★)
The most detailed of the six, because it is the one that says most about itself. It is in Alcalà de Xivert and lists 8 rooms with private bathroom, on the second floor of a building with no lift — worth knowing before booking — with a common area on the floor below. Its website places it 10 minutes from Alcossebre, 17 from Peñíscola and 21 from the airport.

Hostal Rosaleda (1★)
On Plaza Juan Vilanova in Alcalà de Xivert, the town’s main square. No website: phone and email only. It is the most central place to stay in the inland town, a walk from Xivert castle.

Olimpic (Pensión)
A guest house right on the N-340, in Alcalà de Xivert. It is the only one of the six for which the municipal guide gives neither email nor website: just the phone. By location it is the stopover of the list, not a beach-holiday base.

Masía Sierra Irta (Casa rural)
The municipality’s only casa rural, in Alcalà de Xivert — and the small print matters: it presents itself mainly as a wedding and events estate and is let as a whole house, with a minimum of 16 people (12 from January to March); by the room, only Monday to Friday and from two people. Its website states capacity for up to 40 people, a pool, an events hall, a wooden marquee, a garden and a 200 m² terrace, and it publishes its rates. For a large group or a celebration it is the place; for a couple in August, it is not.

Hostal, pensión, rural hotel or casa rural
Hostal and pensión. Small room-based accommodation, without a hotel’s services. On this list the only one that publishes its size is Hostal Neus, with eight en-suite rooms: that is the scale we are talking about. If a lift matters to you, ask — the Neus warns that it is on a second floor without one.
Rural hotel. Just one, the Serra d’Irta, and it is in Alcossebre, on the Las Fuentes hill.
Casa rural. Also one, Masía Sierra Irta, and it does not work like the others: it is let as a whole house with a minimum of sixteen people, except from January to March (twelve) and Monday to Friday by the room. It is a wedding estate that also works as a casa rural, not a casa rural that also hosts weddings.
If none of them fits, the usual choice here is the apartment: they are most of the beds in the municipality. They are compared in the accommodation guide and listed one by one in the apartment index, with a starting price. Before you call
Here you book by phone. Three of the six have no website, and of those the municipal guide lists with one, Pensión Rench’s is the estate agency that runs it. None of the six has a booking engine of its own, so the phone is not the fallback: it is the plan.
Out of season, ask whether they open. These are small places and not all of them work all year. What does open from October to May is in the Alcossebre out of season guide.
If you stay in Alcalà de Xivert, count on the car to get down to the beach, and read how to get here and get around first. In exchange you have Xivert castle a walk away and the Sierra de Irta next door.
Prices have to be asked for. Only Masía Sierra Irta publishes them. For the rest there is no published rate we could quote without making it up.
