Columbretes Islands: The Jewel of the Mediterranean

The Columbretes Islands Natural Park is an archipelago of volcanic origin located 56 km off the coast of Castellón, opposite Alcocebre and Nules. Declared a Marine Reserve in 1990 and a Natural Park in 1994, it is one of the best-preserved marine ecosystems in the whole Mediterranean and an essential destination for lovers of underwater nature and ecotourism.

Why Visit the Columbretes Islands?

• 🐬 Exceptional marine life: The number of fish is 30 times higher than in unprotected areas. Groupers, dentex, barracudas and dolphins are frequent sightings.
• 🦅 Bird colony: Home to one of the world's largest colonies of Audouin's gull, as well as European shags and Eleonora's falcons.
• 🤿 Top-level diving: Waters with visibility of up to 30 m and seabeds with gorgonians, posidonia and unique volcanic reefs.
• 🌋 Volcanic geology: Volcanic origin that creates a rugged, spectacular landscape, very different from the mainland coastline.

How to Get to the Columbretes Islands

Access to the Columbretes is strictly controlled to preserve its ecosystem. Access is only permitted through organised excursions with limited capacity:

• From Alcocebre: Boat excursions from the Puerto Deportivo de Las Fuentes marina. Duration: ~1h 30min crossing. See the marina →
• From Castellón: Departures from the port of Castellón with specialised companies.

What to Do on the Columbretes Islands
